Jamie Foxx, 2 Chainz, DJ Mustard Sued Over "Party Ain't A Party"

Jamie Foxx, 2 Chainz and DJ Mustard are reportedly being sued by J Rand over "Party Ain't A Party."

Jamie Foxx's recent release of "Party Ain't a Party" assumed the role of reintroducing Foxx to the music world. Now, problems have emerged with the track.

According to TMZ, the track featuring 2 Chainz is under fire as Nontra Records is suing Jamie Foxx, 2 Chainz and the song's producer, DJ Mustard, for creating nearly the same track that another artist, J Rand made. The lawsuit is irregular and places the blame on Mustard who the plaintiff claims sent the instrumental to J Rand's then record company, Poe Boy Music Group for J Rand's release. Rand then recorded the song on his own accord with Poe Boy subsequently possessing sole ownership in the copyright of it.

Nontra Records claimed they acquired all rights to the song after buying out Rand's contract from Poe Boys and paid for the mixing and mastering of the track. A representative from DJ Mustard's team says, "DJ Mustard did not grant any rights to a third party to exploit the recording, 'Party Ain't A Party,' and, accordingly, this claim against DJ Mustard has absolutely no merit."

The plaintiff's lawsuit demands at least $150,000 for the copyright infringement and also caries a claim of contributory copyright infringement against Fox for widely distributing the work.

Following the initial report, DJ Mustard's reps clarified their position on the matter.

"DJ Mustard did not grant any rights to a third party to exploit the recording, 'Party Ain't A Party,' and, accordingly, this claim against DJ Mustard has absolutely no merit," the rep said.
