50 Cent: "If The Charts Mattered Now, I'd Quit"

50 Cent says sales aren't as good as they once were but that "no one's lost interest in great music."

50 Cent, who is gearing up to release The Beast Is G-Unit, the second G-Unit mixtape of the year, along with Lloyd Banks, Tony Yayo, Young Buck and Kidd Kidd, says the group is going in a new direction with its music.

“The production has changed,” 50 Cent says in an interview with Billboard. “We’re going to start using some of the usual suspects for hits, at the present moment. [Fans] are going to feel the new energy connected to it."

During the Billboard interview, 50 Cent also discusses how the impact of record sales has changed over the years.

"You know what you gotta do to sell a million records now?" he says. “My first album sold 13 million records…If the chart mattered now, I’d quit. Now, compared to that period, you can forget about it. The album [of mine] to sell the worst was the Curtis record, and Em just sold [for The Marshall Mathers LP 2] what I sold the first week on that album. It’s getting smaller and smaller as we go, but no one’s lost interest in great music.”
