Ladies, do we have a treat for you! BlazinStreetz got the chance to sit down and find out what?s behind the beautiful exterior of Mr. Christian Keyes.
The Great American Stage
Blazinstreetz: How did you get your start in the entertainment industry?
Christian Keyes: Initially I was modeling, I was doing some high end fashion shows that ended up leading to some print work. I started getting offers to start acting, so I starting taking classes to perfect my skills. I started doing gospel stage plays and in summer of 2004 I met Tyler Perry and he asked me if I wanted to be a part of ?Madea Goes to jail? and I thought it was a wonderful opportunity. I went on to be a part of ?What Happens in The Dark?.
Blazinstreetz: What was it like working with both of those productions?
CK: Both were amazing plays. Every night with Tyler on stage is like being in a class, he?s very talented. I learned a lot from him. I learned how to truly be a professional.
Blazinstreetz: Tyler Perry plays are known for bloopers and practical jokes, did you have any while you were on stage?
CK: We crack jokes and mess with each other all the time. One day I was on stage and was about to sing the song ?Wait? So Tyler is standing to the right and he is giving signals to the music director Ronny. Well the more I sang the slower and slower the song got finally Tyler signals for him to speed back up, but they keep speeding it up, I actually had to say ?Ok Ronny!? while I was on stage.
Blazinstreetz: Will you be working with Tyler Perry productions in the future?
CK: I?m looking forward to working with Tyler Perry again, it was a great experience. Working with Tyler is fun, professional and I can show up and do my job. Right now I am trying to focus on television and film, but if another great part comes along, I will jump on it.
Music To Your Ears
Blazinstreetz: Along with acting you have an album out called ?Day by Day? and you have another album coming out. So who inspires you musically?
CK: I am a little weird. I listen to everything. I am a hip-hop and R&B junkie, but I like everything. I like seeing how different genres of music approach writing. But, I am a huge Babyface, Maxwell, Joe, Chris Brown (fan), but I also like Nickelback and Coldplay. If it?s hot, I will listen to it. If you pull up next to me at a stop light, it?s a little funny because you never know who you might hear.
Blazinstreetz: So if you had to compare the sound on your new album to anyone else?s, who would you compare it too?
CK: It?s just a mixture of Babyface and a mixture of Maxwell with a little Joe and Brian McKnight with a little rock mixed in.
Blazinstreetz: Do you have guest appearances on the album or is it a one man show?
CK: I have Marion Dwayne featured on a song called ?You Said? and his twin brother Marlon is a monster on the mic, and we have two songs together one on my album and I am featured on a song on one of his projects. I also have another MC called fast Eddy. He is big in the UK so the fact that he would grace my project was a great addition.
As Seen On TV
Blazinstreetz: Your tattoo has become you trademark/logo, what was the inspiration behind it?
CK: In all honesty I got it after an engagement was broken off, she decided she wasn?t ready and she gave the ring back. So I took the ring back and bought a few things, I was feeling rebellious at the time. Well On my chest I had a basketball with flames on it with my initial, I was thinking that when I am 40 or 50 I wouldn?t want a tattoo like that, it?s something I got when I was young. I asked the tattoo artist what will cover this up and he sketched up the cross. I am a spiritual person. I know where my blessings come from so the cross was a perfect for me?even after four and a half hours of having it done (laughing).
Blazinstreetz: We got to see the tattoo in Keri Hilson?s and Ashanti?s new music videos, what was it like working with those two ladies?
CK: Ashanti and her people were as cool as anyone could hope for, the same thing with Keri, her and her peoples were great. Keri is someone I will defiantly be friends with for years to come. We are both in the same business, but she is a little bit ahead of the game and I can talk to her about things I am doing and projects I have going on.
Blazinstreetz: Will we be seeing you in any more music videos?
CK: I am featured in Joe?s new video that just came out, ?Why just be friends? directed by Billy Woodruff. It was great working with Joe, it?s always cool working with someone that you are a fan of.
For Ladies Only
Blazinsteetz: So my readers want to know, why are you single?
CK: It?s a choice right now, it?s hard to find a woman who understands the time and demand it takes to do what I am doing right now. Don?t get me wrong I wouldn?t mind being in a relationship, but right now it?s just not the right time.
Blazinstreetz: What are you looking for in a woman?
CK: I am looking for a spiritual woman. I don?t mind a woman that is a little spoiled, but too spoiled I cannot deal with. I believe in everything being reciprocated and we should have things in common. I want someone who is trying to do things for herself and can complement the things I am trying to accomplish in my life.
Blazinstreetz: What are you looking for in a strong relationship?
CK: Finding someone who is driven and likeminded. She doesn?t know it all so you both are learning and growing together.
Blazinstreetz: What?s your idea of the perfect date?
CK: I would have to say catching a really good concert, like prince or Stevie Wonder, and dinner on a yacht where it?s quiet and romantic.
Day By Day
Blazinstreetz: You have a lot on your plate, how are you balancing fatherhood with your busy schedule?
CK: I wouldn?t trade fatherhood for the world, I love being a dad. I don?t get to see him that often, but we talk everyday if not twice a day. He understands that I am doing this to make this better for him. We say our prayers together. I grew up without my father around so I try to be there for my son as much as I can. I mean, my son even knows all the words to all of my songs, he told me he wants to be a singer just like me when he gets bigger.
Blazinstreetz: Where do you see yourself in five years?
CK: In five years I have released my third CD, done several films, and I am performing on an international stage, where I can talk about overcoming obstacles. I believe that God likes when we can share our gifts and expand our talents beyond what he has given us.
Blazinstreetz: Is there anything else you want your fans to know?
CK: Just one last thing, I only have two pages www.christiankeyes.com and www.myspace.com/christiankeyes1 . There are a lot of people who are pretending to be me on facebook, blackplanet, and plentyoffish.com, but those two are the only two I have where you can get in touch with me.
