Palin Proves Herself |

Sarah Palin delivers a historic speech proving her ability to run the country. Read more here! |
It's been a tough week for Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin. Despite the controversy surrounding John McCain's new running mate, she addressed the country on Wednesday in her GOP Convention speech at St. Paul, Minn.
While she avoided some of the issues that arose in the media about her personal life, Palin made sure to introduce her family to the world. Her pregnant 17-year-old daughter, a topic of concern for several media outlets, was present with her boyfriend, along with Palin's four-month old baby with down syndrome.
This has been a cause for concern for some, who believe that Palin should focus on raising her child instead of running a country. However, Cindy McCain, John McCain's wife thinks this sentiment is not warranted.
"All women know we can do it; we can do it really well, and the more you give us the better we are," McCain said.
She also told PBS that she is insulted by people who don't think a woman with children can do her job to the best of her ability.During her GOP Convention speech, Palin addressed her critics by telling them about her experience.
Before I became governor of the great state of Alaska, I was mayor of my hometown. And since our opponents in this presidential election seem to look down on that experience, let me explain to them what the job involves, Palin said. I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a "community organizer," except that you have actual responsibilities.
Palin continued with her speech by saying that much like Obama, she's not the average candidate. She let the media know that she wasn't concerned about what they thought about her.
I've learned quickly, these past few days, that if you're not a member in good standing of the Washington elite, then some in the media consider a candidate unqualified for that reason alone, Palin said. But here's a little news flash for all those reporters and commentators: I'm not going to Washington to seek their good opinion - I'm going to Washington to serve the people of this country.
Palin didn't only speak about her strong attributes, she made sure to speak about why her opponents were not right for the job of running the country.
I've noticed a pattern with our opponent. And there is much to like and admire about our opponent, Palin said. But listening to him speak, it's easy to forget that this is a man who has authored two memoirs but not a single major law or reform - not even in the state senate. This is a man who can give an entire speech about the wars America is fighting, and never use the word "victory" except when he's talking about his own campaign.
Palin questioned Obama's execution on the plans that he has been promising many Americans.Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani of New York spoke at the Convention to let people know that he's confident in Palin. Although Palin was only a mayor of less than 7,000 people and governed Alaska for less than two years, Giuliani said she had more credentials than Obama.
She already has more executive experience than the entire Democratic ticket, said Giuliani. Barack Obama has never led anything, nothing, nada.
Whether Americans agree with McCain and Giuliani about Palin has yet to be determined. However, her speech at the GOP Convention has given her a chance to address the country's questions about her ability as a leader on her own terms. |
