I guess that's not a bad idea considering the fact
that I don't know how many people are anticipating his next recording album.
Even if he does become a good actor, will he be able to rank among the best
rappers turned actors?
Bow Wow will have a steady role on the HBO series "Entourage" in
which he will play a stand-up comedian. In an interview with Hollywood
Reporter, Bow Wow said spoke about the situation.
"After 16 years in the music industry and six
successful albums, I've decided to shift my energy to something else I'm
passionate about, acting. I'm going to try to be the next Will Smith."
Bow Wow's been in a few movies in the past like "Johnson Family Vacation" and "Like
Mike", but those were all while he was only acting on the side. He should
improve significantly if he devotes the majority of his time to his acting. Bow Wow says he wants to be the next Will Smith, but I honestly don't see that happening.
Although he started out as a rapper, Will Smith will
probably be remembered for his outstanding acting. The Philadelphia
rapper started off acting on the classic series "The Fresh Prince of
Bel-Air" and after starred in movies that became instant favorites around
the world. Will smith is the definition of rapper turned actor and has dazzled
audiences with his performances in movies like "Independence
Day", "Men in Black",
"The Pursuit of Happiness" and "Ali".
Another rapper who became a good actor was none other than
the late great Tupac Shakur. Early on Tupac had
small parts like his appearance on "A Different World", but
eventually landed bigger movie roles in which he showcased more of his
range. He starred in movies like "Poetic Justice" with Janet Jackson, "Above the Rim" and the hood
classic "Juice". Pac was able to become whatever character he was
playing, a skill which helped him easily portray each one of them in front of
the camera.
Mos Def is one of my favorite rappers turned actors and brings a
ton of emotion to all of his projects. He's played in Spike
Lee's "Bamboozled", "Brown Sugar" and "16
Blocks", but his best performance in my opinion was his role as Vivien
Thomas in "Something the Lord Made". The movie is the true story of a
black man who was a major factor in the development of modern heart surgery. Mos Def is an excellent actor and one of the best
emcee's who has made the jump to the silver screen.
Bow Wow has his work cut out for him if he wants to be the
next Will Smith. I'd give Nick Cannon that title
way before I would Bow. I guess we'll see how good he gets when he appears as
another cast member on "Entourage".
