Rapper Snoop Dogg is expanding his successful Snoop Youth Football League in Chicago, with the hopes of combating violence in the city.

On Saturday (March 5th), SYFL's Commissioner Haamid Wadood landed in Chicago where he announced plans for the 2011 season, which includes eight new teams in Chicago.

Additionally, Snoop appointed 37-year-old Tonja Styles as President of the Chicago division, while former Chicago Bears/Super Bowl champion Otis Wilson as VP of the league.

“This is a great day for the youth of the city of Chicago," Tonja Styles told AllHipHop.com in a statement. "They deserve a real chance. And it’s a great day for Hip Hop.

"When the Derrion Albert tragedy shocked the world and embarrassed this city, the Hip Hop artists were the first to respond, from Nas to Bow Wow to Swizz Beatz; because they come from the same conditions and challenges these kids are facing," Styles continued. "But it was Snoop who had a “real” program that offers a “real” alternative to the streets. We can’t continue to say, 'Stop the Violence,' and not offer something in its place."

In the coming months, Snoop's league will debut four of the eight teams that will represent Chicago.

Chicago's West Side will be represented by The Chicago Chargers), the Northside/Pilsen area has The Jets, the Roseland/Blue Island section of the city has The Southside Seahawks, while Cabrini Green will be represented by The Raiders.

Snoop started the SYFL seven years ago,  with $1 million dollars of his own money.

The SYFL is open to children ages 7-14 years-old, who must maintain a certain GPA in order to play for the league.
