Having to spend all of his time as the captain of most of his soccer
teams and singing in a choir, he learned the importance of working
well with others. The D.C. Boy's Choir gave him the necessary training
to understand the basics of music, including pitch. He left the choir
after singing for about three years and then went on to sing in his
junior high school choir. His love for music would
not let him give it up. |

About a year later, two of Desmond's friends, Michael Carroll (JC) and
Stefan Lockridge (Keys), started a rap group titled SEC, which stood
for South East Connection. Since he was the youngest in the group, it
was hard for him to be accepted by the members and to get beats. As a
result, Desmond started writing on his own and then downloaded his
first music production program. After his first couple of songs were
recorded, he finally had something to bring to the table, and was
accepted as a member of SEC.
A couple years later when JC and Keys left for college, again Desmond
was left on his own with no way to record. This time he took matters
into his own hands and learned how to work his first recording program
and began to buy equipment. He used these to start recording people at
his school and around his neighborhood. He was eventually honored with
an award at school to show his involvement and determination to help
the music department.
During the summer, Desmond worked with a well-respected DJ by the name
of Gary El Drew. He taught Desmond more about his skill and how to
work with others by teaching young kids the same. Gary also took
Desmond behind stage at many shows to set up equipment and also to
meet many different recording artists including Chuck Brown, Ciara,
Chris Brown, Young Dro, and many others. Also, during the past few
summers, Desmond was invited to work with a local production team
under the management of Disney Thay Smith at a studio called Mad Jam
Recording Studios. There he worked with other older producers who
taught him different skills to help his own production.
Recently, Desmond has been working to complete his first album. He has
been recording at a studio in Baltimore called Above Ground Studios.
Other artists such as Mya, Usher, and Dru Hill have also recorded at
the same studio. On his album he is working with Baltimore's own local
celebrity A-maz-on, R&B singers from Baltimore and New York, and also
a live guitar player from Delaware. He has produced and put together
the whole album and is now working on the final stages of it. |
