Chicago police held an impromptu news conference this morning near the home of a deadly multiple shooting that left four family members dead and two others injured this morning. The shooting happened sometime after 4 a.m. at 7248 S. Mozart Street in the Marquette Park neighborhood.

Eighth District Commander John Kupczyk told reporters this morning that among the four dead, two were found in one bedroom, and two in another. He did not specify the victims' ages or genders, or where in the bedrooms they were found..

"This is a crime scene, a horrendous scene," he said. "Something like this is pretty incomprehensible. We officers have families too,"

A police official who asked for anonymity said that the victims included a 7-month old boy, a 3-year old girl, a 16-year old girl, and an adult female. Two other victims, a male and a woman were both taken with gunshot wounds to Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn. A source told WGN-TV the woman, said to be "older", was "very touch and go". The male victim was possibly 15. Officially, the two are listed in critical condition. The woman

Kupczyk said police did not establish a motive for the shootings. Nor could he verify the exact relationship the suspect might have had with the victims. The person is being questioned by detectives at Wentworth Police headquarters.

Another police source told WGN-TV that a surviving boy, possibly 12-years old, made the 911 call to police about 4:25 a.m., allegedly telling police, "my (relative) is shooting my family". (Because the suspect has not been charged, WGN-TV will not disclose the relationship the boy gave to police). Police haven't said if there were other survivors.

Not much is known about the suspect, but he's believed to reside somewhere in the Madison, Wisconsin area. Kupczyk said police have not yet verified the exact relationship of the suspect to the victims.

Kupczyk said with the help of witnesses they were able to locate the suspect in the area of 59th Street and Racine Avenue shortly before 6 a.m. A source said he may have taken a bus to the area. A weapon was recovered about two blocks away near the side of a house in the 6200 block of South Elizabeth Street.

Sources told WGN-TV police had been dispatched to two homes where relatives of the suspect lived. Officials believed the suspect was possibly heading to one of them. Where he was taken into custody was about 7 blocks from the home the official cited.

Police are also reported to be looking at security video from CTA buses which the suspect may have taken after the shootings. Two bus routes in particular interested police--the 63rd Street route, and the Western Avenue route, believing the suspect may have taken two routes and gone east on 63rd Street from Western to the area he eventually was taken into custody.

Kupczyk said the early morning violence appeared to have stemmed from a "domestic-type" situation.
