The enormous buildup, anticipation and hype would lead you to believe that this is the greatest free-agent field we'll ever see in our lifetimes. At a tick past the stroke of midnight, a select handful of NBA stars will be free to sign with whomever ... free being a curious word, since many millions will be at stake.

What else is on the line? Plenty. Championships, of course. The financial well-being of certain franchises. Reputations. Careers. Season tickets. Marketing. The evolution of mankind, basically. Everyone with a basketball pulse has chimed in about the upcoming process: politicians, including President Obama (a Bulls fan). Actors, singers, comedians, talk-show hosts, bloggers, fans, the whole gamut.

An event this big almost owes us an equally big result, if only to justify the round-the-clock attention it's generating. And the only way that happens is if LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, the Big Three free agent prizes of the summer, agree to become teammates and create a once-in-a-lifetime team. Maybe not a Dream Team, but certainly a Supreme Team. A team that free agency built.

It would be good for almost everyone and everything: fans, media, the players themselves, the team they agree to join and the NBA. Tremendous interest would follow the Supremes through the course of 82 games plus the playoffs. They would be equally beloved and reviled, adored and admonished, but definitely not ignored.
