B.Rossi Produces More Than Just Produce

By: BlazinStreetz.comPosted On: 05/01/2009 10:32 P

He's been compared to Kanye, inspired by OutKast, worked with Lloyd, has his own production company and to top it off-he's unsigned!

B Rossi sat down with Blazinstreetz to speak about his new album, Grocery Store; new mixtape, Grocery List and is giving us the ingredients to cook up something hot for the radio, the iPod and everything else in between.

What made you want to get in the rap game?

OutKast's first album. OutKast really made me want to rap. I heard that and I was like 'I can do this'. I think after I heard their album, I wrote my first rap-matter of fact, I wrote my first rap right after I heard it.

How old were you?

I was nine.

That's pretty young to already know you were going to be a rapper when you grew up.

Well, I didn't know I wanted to be a rapper, I just knew that I could rap. I didn't discover I wanted to be a rapper 'til I was like 14 or 15.

Who are some of your other influences other than OutKast?

Aw, man-you know what's weird? Most of my influences aren't even rappers. I listen to a lot of alternative music. You know-John Mayer, a lot of old school like Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye. A lot of other rappers like: Lupe, 'Ye, Jay-Z, Nas, Wayne. Just different people-you know, anybody that's good at their craft. I'm really into Coldplay. When it comes to my music, I'm not really a closed minded person. I listen to everything because it shapes my music.

Your music sounds different than most of the Atlanta rappers I hear. What sets you apart from everybody else?

My musical Background. I grew up playing instruments, playing classical music-you know, that's my roots-playing in an orchestra. That's where I came from. I think I have an advantage over other artists because I use that when it comes to doing records and stuff.

Do people still compare you to Kanye West?

Yeah. Um, I think they mean it as a compliment as far as the music. It don't really bother me. I just feel like since I'm different, they don't really know what t put their finger on, so they say Kanye.

Your new mix tape is called the Grocery List, what's behind the name?

The name of my album is the Grocery Store-so I made Grocery List because I'm giving you the ingredients to what's going to be in the Grocery Store-like what's going to be on my album; the different styles of music. I was trying ti stay with the theme. That's where I worked too. I worked at the grocery store.

I heard the song Party Girl with Lloyd, how'd get guys get hooked up?

Aw man, one of my managers-he's actually a barber too. He was cutting Lloyd's hair and [Llyod] heard the record and he said he wanted to get on it. So it was that simple.

I heard one of Bad Boy's new artists used that same beat for one of their songs. What happened with that?

I mean, the way I got the beat was wild so I wasn't even mad about that. They just signed a new girl over there-I don't know her name, but I ain't going to make ______ without letting nobody else do it. (laughs)

Who produces for you?

I got my own production company called Flight Travel. And I got a lot of different producers [too].

What's with the flight theme you got going on?

That's my brand. When I came up, I played instruments. I mean, being in the band might be kind of dorky or whatever (laughing)
