John Gotti's Grandson Calls Out Rick Ross for 'Teflon Don' Title

Former drug kingpin Ricky “Freeway” Ross isn’t the only one who has a bone to pick with rapper Rick Ross. The grandson of mobster John Gotti is calling out hip-hop’s boss for poaching his grandfather’s nickname.

Carmine Agnello Jr., better known as Carmine Gotti, was less than pleased when he heard the Miami MC had chosen Teflon Don as his album title. His late grandfather, mob boss John Gotti, was dubbed the “Teflon Don” after winning multiple acquittals. “My grandfather paid his dues for that nickname,” Gotti told the New York Daily News. “That was my grandfather’s life.”

Agnello, who is trying to launch his own hip-hop career, wishes Ross had spoken with the Gotti family before using the name. “He should have asked for permission. A standup, respectable guy would come and ask if [he] could use the nickname,” said the 24-year-old. “I think he’s a great artist, but you can’t just start calling yourself that to sell records. He wants to go for that whole image, but hey, be yourself.”

In addition to labeling him a copycat, Agnello took a personal jab at Ross and his past occupation. “Only in America can you go from being a corrections officer to calling yourself Teflon Don,” he quipped.

While it may be causing a stir with the Gottis, Rick Ross’ new album is receiving rave reviews from critics. Teflon Don will battle Eminem’s Recovery for No. 1 on next week’s albums chart.
