Darrelle Revis back at Jets practice

Less than 24 hours after signing a four-year, $46 million contract, New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis returned to the practice field Tuesday, preparing for the season opener against the Baltimore Ravens.

After a 36-day holdout, the focus was conditioning. In the early part of practice, Revis worked alone with secondary coach Dennis Thurman, performing his backpedal and short sprints.

Revis didn't work in the first team drill. Instead of taking his usual spot with the starting defense, the All-Pro was off to the side, going through a series of conditioning drills. Everywhere he went, he was followed by NFL Films, shooting footage for the final episode of "Hard Knocks."

"Everybody is waiting for Darrelle," safety Jim Leonhard said to no one in particular, looking at a cluster of photographers positioned in the area of the defensive-back drills. But Revis was on the other side of the field, doing his own thing.

Revis wore a serious look the whole time, no joking around, but there was one light moment. When he intercepted a pass in a defensive walk-through, he received mock cheers from his teammates and he did a chest bump with defensive end Shaun Ellis.

For the first time since the June minicamp, Revis was back. After a sometimes acrimonious holdout, he agreed late Sunday night to his new deal, arrived Monday on an early-morning flight from South Florida, signed the contract, met the media and went to work.

Revis wasn't the only returnee. Fullback Tony Richardson, who re-signed Monday after being released Sunday, was in uniform and back on the field. The Jets cut him in a procedural move as they tinkered with the 53-man roster after the final cutdown.
