Dr. Dre Honors Sean 'Diddy' Combs During Ascap Rhythm & Soul Awards

A number of artists were honored Friday night (June 24th), in Los Angeles at ASCAP's 24th annual Rhythm & Soul Music Awards.

Rapper Ludacris and producers Matthew “Boi-1da” Samuels and Noah “40” Samuels tied for the Songwriters of the Year Award, while be B.o.B.'s hit single “Nothin On You” took home top Rap Song of the Year.

The highlight of the evening came when Sean “Diddy” Combs was honored with ASCAP's Founders Award in recognition of his “achievements as a producer, artist, entrepreneur, actor and icon whose creative genius continues to shape the course of music.”

Super producer/Aftermath Entertainment label owner Dr. Dre was on hand to present the Founders Award to Combs.

Dr. Dre acknowledged Combs' accomplishments in a prepared speech.

“If you ask a group of people what hustle is, you are probably going to get a lot of different answers,” Dr. Dre told the crowd. “But I think it's doing whatever it takes to become successful. It takes focus, determination and playing the game a little harder than those around you. Sean 'P. Diddy' Combs is a hustler. As a matter of fact he is what I call an 'extreme hustler.' He is a producer, actor, has created a clothing empire, and he is also responsible for creating one of my favorite Vodkas [Ciroc]."

Other artists and celebrities who attended ASCAP's 24th annual rhythm & soul music awards included Lyor Cohen, Jimmy Iovine, Drake, Letoya Luckett, the Legendary Traxster, Drumma Boy and others.

Past recipients of the ASCAP founders award include Garth Brooks, Dr. Dre, Stevie wonder, Billy Joel, Paul McCartney, Berry Gordy Junior, and others.
