Comedian Kevin Hart hosted the 2011 BET Awards, which took place in Los Angeles California, tonight (June 25th).

Stars like Will and Jada Smith, Sean "Diddy" Combs, Justin Bieber, Nia Long, Alicia Keys, Nelly, Robert Townsend, Leon, Meagan Goode, Mary J. Blige, Beyonce Knowles, Chris Brown Steve Harvey and others attended the annual awards show, which was broadcast live from The Shrine Auditorium.

A number of Hip-Hop artists were honored during the event.

Best Female Hip-Hop Artist went to Nicki Minaj, who was accompanied to the stage by Drake, Lil Wayne, Mac Maine, and Bryan "Birdman" Williams.

"Wow I can't believe I won," Nicki said as the crowd laughed, due to the other contenders for the award, which included Lola Monroe, Cymphonique Miller and Diamond.

"Please don't [laugh]," Nicki told the crowd. "What I'm saying is that I didn't expect this [award]. I love my team Young Money, Cash Money," Nicki said, noting that it was the first award she accepted with Lil Wayne, since he was released from prison in November of 2010.

Chris Brown, who was nominated for a total of six awards, took home the Best Male R&B Artist Award, while Willow and Jaden Smith tied to take home the YoungStar Award.

Best Group accolades went to Diddy/Dirty Money, while Best Collaboration went to Chris Brown, Lil Wayne and Busta Rhymes for "Look At Me Now."

Michael Vick and Serena Williams won sportsman/sportswoman of the year award, while Best Male Hip-Hop Artist went to Kanye West, who did not attend the award ceremony.

Best New Artist went to Pittsburgh rapper Wiz Khalifa, who attended the ceremony with Amber Rose, who was dressed in a sheer, black outfit.

"They need a taller mic for me I am not used to winning stuff. I want to thank everyone at rostrum records, everyone at atlantic, all my fans, The Taylor and all the young people who promote positive and just enjoying yourself, this is for y'all."

Radio host/comedian Steve Harvey took home the BET Humanitarian Award for his work in the community.

"This is a testament to God, his power, his ability to forgive you when you've done wrong, his ability to change people. God changed me," Steve Harvey said. "That's the only reason I'm able to do what I do today. God is in the redemption business y'all…I want to thank my peers, to all of you who inspire young people, all of you have set out a blueprint for me. I thank God for all of that. But without God I would be nothing."

Rappers also dominated the performances during the 2011 BET Awards.

Mary J. Blige, Jadakiss and DJ Khaled opened the show, while Rick Ross performed his single "Aston Martin Music" minus Crisette Michelle or Drake [who did attend the awards].

Next, Ross was accompanied by Ace Hood, DJ Khaled and Lil Wayne, for a rendition of their single "Hustle Hard."

Chris Brown performed a medley of his hits flanked by the Jabberwockies dance crew, while Busta Rhymes delivered his lightening fast verse on the track "Look At Me Now."

Alicia Keys performed a medley of her songs that included cameo appearances from Bruno Mars and Rick Ross.

Detroit rapper Big Sean performed his track "My Last" with Chris Brown, while Cherrelle and Alexander O'Neal pleased the crowd with their old school single "Saturday Love."

Trey Songz performed "Making Love Faces" and "Unsual," while Kelly Rowland followed with her song "Motivation."

Legendary R&B singer Gladys Knight presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to Patti Labelle, who was honored with a performance by Cee Lo Green, Marsha Ambrosius and Shirley Caesar.

Snoop Dogg and Warren G. lead a tribute to fallen rapper Nate Dogg with a rendition of the hit song "Regulate," while Queen Latifah paid tribute to Gil Scott-Heron with a performance of "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised."

During the evening, Kevin Hart shined as a host, cracking off-color jokes about former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, Nick Cannon and Eminem and even himself in a dig about the movie "Soul Plane" and during a humorous skit titled "Real Husbands of Hollywood" that featured Bobby Brown, Jermaine Dupri, Nick Cannon and Hart himself.
