R&B singer Ne-Yo came to Brooklyn to help US military troops and their families celebrate the Fourth of July weekend, by headlining a free concert on a army base in Fort Hamilton (July 2).

The event was organized by Lerer Media in partnership with Fort Hamilton's Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation, Mission One Voice, The Source Magazine, and Kiss FM.

Big Marv of A&E Network's reality show 'Hammertime' was on hand as host.

After a lengthy meet and greet with troops and other first responders and their families, Ne-Yo explained his participation in the event in a press conference.

"Well it's something that we were trying to put together for a little while," Ne-Yo said. "Just a way for me to show my appreciation for what it is that the troops do. I'm out here supporting the people who support me, and my free way of life. I'm happy to be here."

Dressed in green army camouflage style sneakers, black Cassius Clay t-shirt, and olive colored jacket and cap Ne-Yo sang and danced his way through hits which included 'So Sick,' 'Miss Independent,' 'Can We Chill,' 'Stay,' and 'One in a Million.'

Ne-Yo's final words to the  troops overseas  were: "Just to keep your heads up, and know that people back here at home are missing you everyday and praying for you everyday…hurry up and come on back."
