Hip-Hop activist Erica Ford has been nominated for a Hoodie Award for her work in the New York community and surrounding areas.

Ford is up for the Best Community Leader award for her work through the LIFE Camp, Inc., which teaches violence prevention in schools.

Through her efforts, Ford has galvanized the Hip-Hop community into action around New York City, working with a number of top artists, including Russell Simmons, Jim Jones, Ja Rule, Maino and numerous others.

"This is not a job, this is my 'Life,'" Ford told AllHipHop.com. "My undying love keeps me committed to my people until my glory day takes me away."

The Hoodie Awards were created by popular comedian Steve Harvey, to honor local businesses, religious establishments and community leaders.

"In tough times and even in good times, it can be difficult for independent businesses and entrepreneurs to thrive, and these individuals continue to be beloved in their communities for everything they do-  teaching the kids, inspiring their congregations and enriching the neighborhood with their hard work and expert service," said Steve Harvey. "I am blown away and humbled by the throngs of men and women who come to enjoy VEGAS and support each other at the HOODIES every year."

This year's Hoodie Awards are slated to take place at the Mandalay Bay resort hotel in Las Vegas on August 13th.
