Rick Ross Speaks On Pill's Departure From MMG, Wishes Rapper "Success"

The Maybach Music Group founder revealed that Gangsta Pill's Warner Brothers deal landed him a one-year spot alongside Wale and Meek Mill, but even though they've parted ways, there's no bad blood.

In late 2011, Maybach Music Group member Pill began speaking out of his unhappiness with his group situation. As band-mates Wale and Meek Mill had stepped out with solo success, Pill - who began as a Grind Time Rap Gang member, wasn't reaching radio and television success. The Atlanta, Georgia native took to Twitter and voiced his displeasure.

In an interview earlier this week with MTV Rapfix, Rick Ross reacted to Pill's comments and clarified his role with the MMG quartet. "Pill's situation was a special situation because he was already signed to Warner [Brothers Records] before I did my label deal at Warner. So when I did do my deal, it was a business opportunity that was presented where Pill could run with the team for a year," Ross told Sway. "I took that opportunity. That year ran its course and it was pretty much up to Warner what decisions they wanted to make with Pill as an artist after that point. I think they made it."

Ross was sympathetic to Pill's frustrations, and said it was industry climate that delivered Meek Mill a solo hit and Wale the momentum towards a sophomore solo album. However, the band-leader assured that there is no beef between Pill and MMG, "Hopefully, in the future he'll bring him a hit record, and get him some paper and do his thing...I wish him much success." The Miami, Florida rapper explained, "Once you rep the MMG flag, I'll never step on your feet."
