Rapper's attorney says friend admits guilt

A friend of Corey "C-Murder" Miller who is serving a life sentence in a Georgia prison for homicide has admitted to being the shooter in a Louisiana nightclub seven years ago, Miller's attorney said.

Prosecutors, however, said the friend, Juan Flowers, who was with Miller at the scene on January '02, denied he and C-Murder were involved in Steve Thomas' death.

Miller is charged with second-degree murder in the death of the 16-year-old Thomas. Back in September 2003, a jury convicted Miller, but a judge granted a new trial after finding attorneys didn't share certain witness information with the defense.

Jury selection for the re-trial begins August 3. If convicted of second-degree murder, Miller will be sentenced to life. C-Murder's attorney, Ron Rakosky, wants Flowers moved to testify in Miller's trial.

"Juan Edwin Flowers has stated under oath that it was he who fired the shot which killed Steve Thomas," Rakosky wrote in the July 3 request. "His testimony is therefore relevant and he is a material witness."

This request requires the approval of Judge Hans Liljeberg, who's presiding over Miller's case. If the judge finds that Flowers a worthy witness, he could ask a Georgia judge to order Flowers to Louisiana to testify.

Assistant District Attorneys David Wolff and Shannon Swaim filed papers recently that stated on February 2, Flowers told Jefferson Parish police that he was with C-Murder at the time of Steve Thomas' murder.

"Flowers denied that he or Corey Miller were responsible for the murder of Steve Thomas," the prosecutors wrote.

Flowers also told Jefferson Parish authorities that he met with C-Murder
