Steven Tyler Apologizes To Nicki Minaj, Denies "American Idol" Criticism Was Racist

Steven Tyler responds to Nicki Minaj's claims that comments he made about her were racially-motivated.

Earlier this week, Aerosmith lead singer and former "American Idol" judge Steven Tyler criticized Nicki Minaj's role as a judge on "Idol." His remarks included stating that Nicki would've sent Bob Dylan "to the cornfield" if he auditioned this season. In response, Minaj tweeted that the comments were racist.

In an interview on Canadian show eTalk, Tyler apologized for his comment, and vehemently denies being racist.

"I apologize if it was taken wrong, Nicki," said the singer. "But I am the farthest thing from [being a racist] ... I am the last thing on this planet as far as being a racist. I don't know where she got that out of me saying I'm not sure how she would have judged Bob Dylan."

Steven Tyler explained that he meant, "if Bob Dylan came on the show, he would've been thrown off."

"Maybe I spoke out of turn," said the singer. "But a racist I'm not, Nicki."
