Common assists in getting Native American activist Leonard Peltier out of prison.

Common has voiced his support for imprisoned Native American activist Leonard Peltier, who is currently serving two life sentences for the execution-style deaths of two FBI agents in 1975.

According to AP, the Chicago, Illinois native will perform as part of the "Bring Leonard Peltier Home Concert" at New York's Beacon Theatre tonight. The lineup includes Harry Belafonte, Pete Seeger, Jackson Browne and more, and the show is meant to bring awareness to Peltier's plea for clemency as he says he was framed by the FBI.

For Common, he researched Peltier before agreeing to participate in the show. "If I can really help a man be free from something he was accused of and is innocent and wants to be with his family, I can't get up there and say I can't do this because I may have a chance to get more record sales, or this film company is not going to decide to use me," he said.
