Chris Brown’s ‘X’ To Feature Kendrick Lamar, Cites Stevie Wonder & Sam Cooke As Inspiration For 1st Single

Are we seeing a new Chris Brown transforming before our very eyes? Looks like it. The singer invited MTV News to a private listening session of his forthcoming August release, X. Breezy revealed song titles and details behind some of the projects content. “Fine China”, Brown’s first single which was written by Diplo is said to bring back an old school vibe reminiscent of the greats like Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder and Sam Cooke.

While Brown’s music is taking a new twist, his off-set online demeanor is also being adjusted. The signer said of his Twitter, Instagram presence, “I have to think logically. When I’m too attainable, it makes me too down. Now I express it through my music and through my paintings as well. What I want to talk about comes out, and the beat fills in the rest. All of it coexists with my reality now. I’m an open book. I think the way my life is, people want to know all the time, so I have to let them know through my music.” Smart move, Young Chris.

Though Chris was pretty mum about the contributions to X, V.A.’s finest DID say Compton’s finest, Kendrick Lamar would be featured on a track called “Autumn Leaves.” Chris said of the collabo, “If you’re in your car just riding, it’s perfect. It just feels like a weather record — an emotional record.”

No word on when Chris’ first single “Fine China” will hit airwaves and webwaves.
