Sugarhill Gang's "I Want My Name Back" DVD Release Date & Trailer

The Sugarhill Gang's disputes with Sugar Hill Records over identity theft and unpaid royalties are the subject of a new documentary.
Pioneering Hip Hop trio The Sugarhill Gang is the latest Rap act to document their frustrations with their label. Following Crooked I's Life After Death Row documentary about his own struggles, the trio of Big Bank Hank, Wonder Mike and Master Gee are preparing the DVD release of I Want My Name Back. The documentary includes interviews with Naughty By Nature, and Grandmaster Caz.
The One Village Entertainment production will hit stores on June 11. According to a press release, the longtime Sugar Hill Records flagship artists are telling "the shocking truth about how greed and betrayal led to the band's fall into obscurity. From chart-topping superstars to broke outcasts, band members Master Gee and Wonder Mike were left with almost nothing…not even their names. In their own words, this is the true and tragic story of the former original members of The Sugarhill Gang."The group was the first national Rap act to crack the Top 40 radio with their 1979 hit "Rapper's Delight," largely penned by Grandmaster Caz of the Cold Crush Brothers. Between 1980 and 1984, the Englewood, New Jersey trio would release three albums on the label of the same name, run by Sylvia Robinson. The label would also release seminal Hip Hop singles from Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five, Spoonie G, and The Treacherous Three. The Sugarhill Gang would later tour with new members, without the consent of the original lineup, inspiring the title.
