TDE Wanted Papoose To Perform At "Summer Jam," Says Hot 97

By: hiphopdx.comPosted On: 06/03/2013 2:30 P

While speculation was made about Papoose rushing the stage, Hot 97 is now reporting that Kendrick Lamar's camp wanted Pap to perform.

According to Hot 97, what many thought was a stage rush from Papoose at last night's "Summer Jam XX" was actually a favor from TDE for the man behind Nacirema Dream.

After Kendrick Lamar's set at "Summer Jam," many were surprised to see Papoose perform. The confusion of the moment had spectators wondering if it was an authorized performance or if he rushed the stage. Speculation and confusion even came from Ebro Darden, Hot 97's program director and on-air personality. Ebro challenged Papoose to come on his morning show to discuss it and vehemently denied knowing about Pap's performance. The two had an exchange via Twitter about it after the event.

However, this morning, Ebro's co-host Peter Rosenberg reported that the performance was in fact a favor from TDE for Papooose. Rosenberg said that an unnamed representative of the camp shared the news with him early.

"When I saw them [TDE] at the venue, I go, 'So that's really happening?' And he's like, 'Listen, Pap's looked out for Kendrick for a long time.'"

Cipha Sounds also added to the report, saying DJ Kay Slay's connection to Top Dawg may have influenced this decision.

"We know Kay Slay's relationship with Top Daw, that it's OG hood forever," he noted.

Kendrick Lamar and Papoose have collaborated in the past. Their song "Lyrical Gangsta" was released late last year.

Much of the show can be streamed below. The clip includes Pap's performance, which comes on after Kendrick lamar ends his set. The stream displayed a Ciroc ad during some of Papoose's time on stage.
