Rap albums secure the top three spots on the Billboard 200 chart for the third straight week and make history in the process.

Thanks to the release of a slew of rap albums over the past few weeks, the genre again had quite the momentous and reportedly history-breaking week according to the Billboard 200 chart.

According to Billboard.com, this week serves as the first time in Billboard 200 history that rap albums have managed to attain the top three spots on the chart for three consecutive weeks. And with the release of Jay-Z’s 12th studio album, Magna Carta Holy Grail, the rap streak could possibly continue into next week.

Among the albums responsible for the history-making deed are J. Cole’s Born Sinner, Kanye West’s Yeezus, Mac Miller’s Watching Movies With The Sound Off, and chart newcomer The Gifted, an album that serves as Wale’s third solo effort.

In those three weeks, the four albums mentioned have switched positions each week with the release of Wale’s album knocking off Miller’s from holding a spot in the Top 3 and Born Sinner clenching the number one spot on the chart for the first time this week.

Surprisingly, it was well over a decade ago when this history-breaking feat was almost made. In 2002, albums from Nelly, Eminem, Nas, and Irv Gotti held the Top 3 spots on the Billboard 200 chart, but only for two consecutive weeks.
