Cee Lo Discusses Andre 3000's Future In Music

By: hiphopdx.comPosted On: 08/08/2013 1:58 P

Cee Lo says that Andre 3000 "was bothered by this bar that had been set" and "maybe he don't want to live up to what people think he should do."

Cee Lo recently talked about a conversation he had with Andre 3000 surrounding the Outkast rapper's future in music.

"He just said he had a severe case of stage fright and just kind of been away from the game and didn't know if he could truly live up..." Cee Lo said, during a Goodie Mob interview with MTV Wednesday (August 7). "Ah, I just feel like I'm talking too much personal stuff. I hope he don't mind. But he just said he was bothered by this bar that had been set and maybe he wants to do something different. He'll always be his worse competition, his worse critic and maybe he don't want to live up to what people think he should do...He's exceptional and has always been ahead of his time anyway. So anything he decides to do, next year or the year after that, we'll still be catching with what's on his mind."

Cee Lo's statements follow rumors of a 2014 release from Andre 3000. On Saturday (August 4), BET executive Steven Hill spoke about this potential project in the tweet below.

Me: hey what's up? You got the movie coming, right? Andre 3000: yeah...and I got a solo album coming top of the year. Me:*droptofloor*

This was later addressed by Andre 3000's representatives. "Regarding reports of a specific plan to release an album in early 2014," Andre 3000's rep told Billboard.com, "there is no official confirmation on that report."

Goodie Mob's Big Gipp also discussed Andre 3000's potential work. "He just released a formal statement saying it's not true," Gipp said of the potential album. "But one thing we know about 3000, whenever somebody sees him doing something and they run and tell the press, he'll always say he ain't doing it or, 'I deny that.' He's always looking for that surprise. I know he put up a video not too long ago. He was in the studio with Mike WiLL [Made It]. I know he doin' somethin'. That's ol' Possum right there."

In June, Cee Lo spoke about his hopes for Andre 3000 following the passing of the Outkast rapper's mother.

"I'm hoping this really makes him angry enough to be artful again," Cee Lo told HipHopDX. "That's what I want for him...When I lost my mother, I feel like I definitely took on her energy...I was not the same person. I took on her will. I pray and wish [Andre 3000] the same positive cause and effect. I hope he gets something constructive out of it."

Goodie Mob has collaborated with Outkast over the years on songs like "Call Of Da Wild" and "Git Up, Git Out." Cee Lo, Big Gipp, T-Mo and Khujo are currently preparing the August 27 release of Age Against the Machine, Goodie Mob's first album with all four members in 14 years.
