Jay Z, Macklemore Lead List of Rap Nominees At MTV Video Music Awards

Kanye West and T.I. will headline this month's show performances with recently-released material.

The Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York usually plays host to the home games of the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets, but on August 25, the passes with be of microphones and astronaut awards at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards (VMA's) show.

Brooklyn will not just be the setting for the show, but will thoroughly represented inside, as hometown hero Jay Z is up for a nomination for his collaboration alongside Justin Timberlake on their video single, “Suit & Tie.” Another superstar at the show will be Jay Z’s onetime protege and Watch The Throne collaborator Kanye West, who will be performing for a record-tying seventh time.

There will be a host of other Hip Hop artists alongside Kanye getting on in the action, including Macklemore & Ryan Lewis for their hit song “Can’t Hold Us,” Drake for “Started From The Bottom,” and J. Cole for “Power Trip,” which are all in the running for Best Hip Hop Video. This trio is up against A$AP Rocky's "F--kin' Problems" posse cut, which includes Kendrick Lamar, also up for his own "Swimming Pools (Drank)."

The Rap/R&B genre also has a strong chance to bring home Video Of The Year, as Macklemore's "Thrift Shop," Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" (with T.I. & Pharrell), compete against Bruno Mars, Taylor Swift and Justin Timberlake vids in that category.
