A$AP Rocky calls Kendrick Lamar "one of the most talented of our generation" while speaking on the rapper's "Control" verse.

As one of a handful of artists called out by name in Kendrick Lamar’s much talked about “Control” verse, Harlem rapper A$AP Rocky had a lot to say in regards to Kendrick’s verse on Big Sean’s record.

While appearing on The Funkmaster Flex Show alongside his fellow A$AP Mob spitters, Rocky was asked to speak directly on Kendrick’s king of New York mention. He responded by jokingly stating that one would have to be under the influence of crack to make such a mention.

The LongLiveA$AP rapper did offer kudos to Kendrick, who he’s collaborated with on numerous occasions, as he commented on the TDE rapper’s verse being needed in Hip Hop.

“I feel like—I mean, that king of New York shit, you smoking crack. Like you crazy. You know what I mean…Honestly though, K-Dot and them niggas, that’s fam yo,” Rocky revealed. “I think Hip Hop need this shit man. It’s niggas who’s pissed off just because they wasn’t mentioned. I just feel like I don’t understand how the nigga never—I’m not justifying shit nigga, rap is rap my nigga. The nigga didn’t say nothing about nobody mother. Nigga ain’t say he wanted the five minutes from nobody…He said these is my niggas and I’m letting y’all know it’s competition. What’s the problem?”

A$AP Rocky later addressed those who may have been offended by Kendrick’s verse on “Control,” specifically those who were not mentioned by name on the song.

“I’mma keep it a buck my nigga, it’s not about being relevant or not because Hip Hop ain’t about relevance,” said the rapper. “It’s all about the sport. It’s all about the culture. You know what I mean? I don’t care if a mothafucka got a hit record or not. It’s not even about that for a nigga like me. I’m talking about for myself. I feel like some people are going extra hard and if that’s how they feel, I feel like that’s something K-Dot gotta handle his self."

Released well over a week ago, Big Sean’s “Control” and Kendrick’s verse on the song in particular, has gone on to warrant lyrical responses from Joell Ortiz, B.o.B, Cassidy, and more.
