Wale says that his "No Pain No Gain" cut was written as if he was inside the mind of Robert Griffin III, the quarterback of the Washington Redskins.

Wale will have his song "No Pain No Gain" featured in the forthcoming documentary on Robert Griffin III, as per hiphopwired.com. RGIII: The Will To Win is slated to air August 27 on ESPN at 7 pm EST.

The film was produced in conjunction with NFL Films and Gatorade, as per the report, and Wale says the drink company and the Washington Redskins quarterback were the reason he got involved with the project.

"Gatorade and Rob wanted me to be a part of it," Wale says, as per hiphopwired.com. "It's just a no-brainer to me because I'm a big supporter of Rob and everything that he's been doing and what he stands for, as well as Gatorade. I played football for 12 years, so I know a thing or two about electrolytes, too."
Wale played football at Robert Morris University and Virginia State University before embarking upon a rap career. He says that he became familiar with Griffin while he was playing at Baylor University.

"I first became aware of him the year he won the Heisman [Trophy, in 2011]," says Wale, who grew up a fan of the Redskins in the Washington, D.C. area. "The first game of the season they aired it on ESPN. He was killing so bad, I was like, 'Who is this dude?' I never in a million years thought [the Redskins] would draft him and it would be on. I always been a fan of dual threat quarterbacks."

Griffin was the #2 player selected in the 2012 NFL Draft and was named the 2012 AP Offensive Player Of The Year.

On "No Pain No Gain," Wale raps, "This is hard work / This is our turf / I'm a carry the city until my arms hurt / I'm a move maker / Never lose faith / I know the easy plays is through the hard work."

"I did my best to speak for him," Wale says of "No Pain No Gain." "[RG3] ain't no rapper, at least I don't think so. He probably could if he wanted to. If I was telling a story to get inside of Robert's mind, what would he say? That's pretty much it."
