Drake Says Ghostface Killah Called Him One Of His Favorite Emcees

Drake details a conversation he had with Ghostface Killah, explains "Wu-Tang Forever" & confirms Wu-Tang Clan appearances on the song's remix.

When Drake released "Wu-Tang Forever," a selection off his new album Nothing was the Same, some criticized him for the title, which is taken from Wu-Tang Clan's 1997 double-album, Wu-Tang Forever. In a recent interview with CRWN, presented by MySpace, Drake spoke about the response from the song.

"I did take a risk titling that song what it was," Drake said in the interview. "But for me, I'm always into paying homage...That's kind of what 'Wu-Tang Forever' is. I've always tried to pick a classic Hip Hop song and make it my own...I thought [the response] would have been worse than that, really, to be honest."

During the interview, Drake also spoke about appearing on a song with "all" of the members of Wu-Tang Clan.

"I've got a great piece with me and Wu-Tang Clan all rapping together again, which is dope," Drake said. "That's coming soon, definitely. It's on the way."

The song Drake is speaking about is rumored to be the remix to "Wu-Tang Forever," though Drake did not say specifically what "piece" the group would appear on.

Yesterday (September 24), Wu-Tang Clan's Inspectah Deck spoke with HipHopDX and denied participating on a remix to "Wu-Tang Forever," though he did confirm that other members were involved in making the remix to the song.

"The understanding that I had from the song was that we was supposed to get on it, not knowing if it was the remix or the original song," Inspectah Deck said in an exclusive interview with HipHopDX. "I believe it was the remix. We was supposed to get on it. Given to me, from RZA, he wanted all eight of us on it. So while we were in Amsterdam, we even booked studio time to go in and get on that song and that was the understanding that I was left with.

"I never made it on the song," Deck added. "Actually, I went back to the hotel. Late night, I left. From my understanding, [Method Man] got on the song, U-God, I think Masta Killah, Capp, not sure. But, I know that there were verses from the Clan on the song."

During the same exclusive interview with HipHopDX, Inspectah Deck also criticized Drake for titling his song "Wu-Tang Forever."

"I just felt it don't need to be 'Wu-Tang Forever,' Inspectah Deck said. "It should be called 'It's Yourz,' if that's the case. That's what the hook seems to be. That's what the main basis of the rhyme seems to be. So you can call it 'It's Yourz' and it would have the same impact. But to call it Wu Tang Forever'...unless the song is about the Clan like that, then it's cool. I'm like, 'Yo, if there's a remix coming out, it got brothers on it and you just wanted to leak this one first and then come back with the Clan in that strategy, that's not the understanding that brothers had in the beginning."

Drake Says Ghostface Killah Endorses Him As An Emcee
During his CRWN interview, Drake was also asked about the controversy and discussion surrounding "Wu-Tang Forever." While Inspectah Deck may disagree with the song's title, Drake says other members have extended praise for the Toronto rapper.

"I had the best moment of my life the other day," Drake said during his CRWN interview. "One of the best moments. Ghostface Killah called me. I don't want to out his business, but he was just so real about it that I've gotta tell this story because I'm proud. So, if he watches this, I'm sorry, but I've gotta tell this story. He was like, 'Yo, son, there's this guy on Twitter. He's been pretending to be me for a long time and talked down on you. But I just wanted to tell you, you're one of my favorite emcees.' To hear that from him, somebody who we've all looked up to for so long, it meant a lot."
