Pusha T Says Pharrell Williams & Kanye West Interested In Producing Clipse Album

Pusha T predicts 100,000 copies of "My Name Is My Name" were sold its first week in stores. He also says he won't be disappointed if that amount is not reached.

Pusha T’s solo debut, My Name Is My Name, has only been released for a day and already talk of a new Clipse album is beginning to surface. During an appearance on Peter Rosenberg and Cipha Sounds’ Juan Epstein podcast, Pusha T spoke on his solo debut and shared a detail in regards to his next project with fellow Clipse member No Malice.

According to Pusha T, both Kanye West and Pharrell Williams have expressed their interest in working on an entire Clipse album.

“They both are like—and I don’t even wanna bring this conversation up any further than this statement, but they both are like, ‘Yo, we just need to do the whole Clipse album. Both of us. And that’s it,’” said Pusha.

As a G.O.O.D. Music emcee, Pusha T has collaborated with Kanye on numerous occasions. The Windy City artist also lent his production talents on a large percentage of the records featured on My Name Is My Name.

Additionally, Pusha’s work with Pharrell dates back to the Clipse’s debut album, Lord Willin’. All of the tracks included on the duo’s 2002 debut are produced by The Neptunes.

In addition to revealing news about the Clipse’s next LP, Pusha T commented on the work that went into releasing his first album as a solo act. According to the Virginia rapster, there were fans that weren’t “receptive” in the beginning and there were also younger fans that had no idea of his Clipse past and believed he was a new artist.

“It was a long time coming for a lot of people,” Pusha said. “And what people don’t realize for me it really wasn’t because I had to spend so much time I think retuning the ears of people not hearing Malice at the end of my—after my verse. So, to me it took a long time just to even get people past that fact that I wasn’t—the Clipse weren’t doing music together…They weren’t receptive at first. Yo, I have people who think I’m new. Like kids who think I’m new.”

Pusha T’s My Name Is My Name was released yesterday (October 8), almost four years after the release of the Clipse’s last studio album, Til The Casket Drops.

When asked during his interview how many copies of his album he believes will be sold in its first week, Pusha T predicted 100,000, but revealed that he wouldn’t be disappointed if that amount is not reached.
