Nipsey Hussle explains how Jay Z purchased $10,000 worth of his new mixtape, "Crenshaw."
Nipsey Hussle recently spoke about having Jay Z's support for his "Crenshaw" release, a project that was sold for $100 per copy. Jay purchased 100 copies, according to Hussle.
"I got a DM on Twitter from a respected Hip Hop journalist and he was just like, 'Hov respects the move, salute,'" Nipsey said in an interview with MTV. "A little while later, I got an email that came through my team that was like, 'Roc Nation, on behalf of Jay Z wants to buy 100 units. Who do we pay? When can we get the shipment out?' They sent us $10,000. we sent them 100 CDs."
Nipsey Hussle says he did not have a chance to speak with Jay Z about this transaction yet.
"I didn't get a chance to holla at Jay, but through his people he made it clear that he respects the movement and everything," Hussle said. "I was humbled by it. I felt like it was a good risk, and it ended up working out."
Nipsey Hussle Explains E-40's Support & Influence
During the interview, Nipsey Hussle also spoke about having support from E-40, someone who influenced him.
"I've been getting phone calls and tweets from people showing support and love," Hussle said. "I talked to E-40 this morning. We laughed about it. He was like, 'What you tryna do, you tryna shut the game down?' I was like, 'I learned from the best. I watched y'all.'"
Glasses Malone recently spoke with HipHopDX about his respect for Hussle's "Crenshaw" release.
“He just took it to another level of what artists can do,” Glasses Malone said. “That just to me speaks to brilliance about his artistry. [Nipsey Hussle] is like that. That’s the kind of stronghold that he has to have over his fan base to mobilize them to make them line up around the motherfucking corner to buy CDs. That just shows how much love they have for him. He’s a real powerful artist. His whole thing is inspiration. His whole movement is built of, ‘You can get it, too.’ He leaves you with a certain level of being inspired.”
