Before battling Head Ice at KOTD's "BOTB 6" this weekend, Daylyt provides insight regarding his stripping during a Don't Flop battle against Dialect in June.
Daylyt, who is set to battle against Head Ice in King of the Dot's upcoming Battle of the Bay 6 (BOTB 6) event Sunday (October 13), recently spoke with HipHopDX about his stripping during a June 2013 battle against Dialect in England's Don't Flop Entertainment Battle Rap league.
"One thing about my homeboys, I tell them things years in advance and they never believe me," Daylyt says in an exclusive interview with HipHopDX. "Like, I told them I was going to do this almost three years ago. I'm like, 'One of these battles nigga, I'm going to just get ass naked.' They like, 'Nigga, shut your dumb ass up.' Fucking three years later, it happens."
At the June event, Daylyt followed through on his plan.
"You want to hear bars?" Daylyt said to the Don't Flop crowd. "Well, I don't got none / Yo, Lotta Zay, I only came to London so I could get ass naked with a shotgun / Slow it down / I hit you in your ass, neck, head with a shotgun / I gotta put it in real life or something? / Nigga, I'm 'bout to get ass-naked with a shotgun."
Then, Daylyt took off his clothes until only a makeshift undergarment (made using a phone charger and napkins) covered his crotch.
Daylyt says now that he had the idea to strip during a battle, but was waiting for the right time to execute it.
"Now, when I came up with the idea, I never knew where I was going to do it at," Daylyt says in HipHopDX's exclusive interview. "I never knew how I was going to do it. I never knew what I was going to do it for but when I got the opportunity to battle Dialect, it wasn't an option that I was going to do anything in the Dialect battle. It wasn't an option at all. I had three dope rounds for Dialect. Very dope rounds."
However, Daylyt says, traveling to Europe affected the emcee negatively.
"The plane is really what fucked me up," Daylyt says. "Like, flying to England. I ain't never flew that much. Ever. So flying to England and you know, the time, the sleeping was all off. All that. So I was very, very fucked up when I was out there. You know, you can ask [fellow battle rappers] The Saurus and 100 Bulletz. I was very, very fucked up when I was out there, throwing up and all types of shit and what not. So, the day we were at the event I tried to sleep through most of the battles, man, 'cause I needed some sleep. Big time. So, we're in the VIP [area] and I'm like, 'Yo, I don't know, man. I'm not feeling too good. Like, I think I'm just going to not battle.' I'm like, 'Man, I'm not feeling to good. Like, for real.' And I'm not trying to be a DNA and throw up on stage.
"So, I'm not feeling too good," Daylyt continues. "My friend was like, 'What you going to do?' I'm like, 'Man, I need a self-destruct button.' I need something that I can just self-destruct this whole battle.' He like, 'You sure? What you going to do?' So I'm like, 'I'm going to go to the bathroom.' So I go to the bathroom and mind you, this is a whole, like B-Rabbit [Eminem's character from 8 Mile] moment. I go into the bathroom and in the back of my head, I hear, 'This is your one shot. Do not miss your chance to blow.' I hear that shit all in the background. I'm just looking in the mirror. Then I run to the toilet. I throw up, come back, look in the mirror. Look in there. I'm like, 'Yo, what you gon' do Day?' I'm going in my pockets, man. At this point in time, I'm like, 'Yo, what the fuck is my second round?' I can't even remember. My brain is all out of it. I dig in my pockets and I see my fucking phone charger. Then I look at the napkins on the wall and then all the ideas start boiling.
"Then, I remembered," Daylyt added. "I said, 'Okay, every fucking person that walks past me in this building keeps saying, 'Daylyt, "Ass Naked with a Shotgun." That video was dope.' Literally, everybody that walked past me said that. So I just kept putting two and two together. I said, 'Okay, boom, boom. I think I'm going to do it. I think I'm going to fucking get naked. I'm going to do it. I know for a fact. I know for a fact right now. I can't even remember my fucking second round. It won't come to me. I can't remember. I didn't write it down or nothing. I know for a fact, I'm going to do this.' But I figured, 'Okay, boom, I'm going to put this shit on.' I start creating a fucking thong. I tie my fucking phone charger around my waist. Then I take one of my shoe strings out. That's how I came out of my shoes so easy. So I take one of my shoe strings out. Then I tie it around my napkin and then I pretty much make the homemade hammock thong."
Daylyt Says His Stripping Made Twitter Explode
Although Daylyt was prepared to strip during the battle, he says he didn't decide to actually strip until the battle took place.
"After that, I had it on, but I still had no plans on getting naked because I actually remembered my second round at the last minute," Daylyt says. "I remembered. So I said, 'Okay, boom. If Dialect starts getting too crazy, I'm just going to have my finger on this button, this get-naked button, just in case he starts getting too crazy or all else fails.' So, first round was pretty dope. Second round, like right before they was like, 'Daylyt, it's on you.' I go into a couple of bars or whatever. Some other shit happened where a dude came up with a ski mask. All type of stuff happened and it threw me off track again. I'm like, 'Yo, where the fuck is my second round?' You know, I try to play it off. I'm just sitting there laughing. I try to bullshit. I'm bullshitting until the shit come in and it never kicked in. So I said, 'Okay, you can have it, Dialect.' As soon as Dialect started to rap, my shit came into my head. I was going to cut him off and finish rapping, but I didn't want to be disrespectful in that level. So I said, 'Okay, third round.' It's the third round. He got the second. The fans were probably disappointed because they don't know If I choked or not. With the exception that Math just came over and did that dumb shit and not spit a second round. So, I don't know how to finish it right now. And, I know for a fact that I'm going to lose this battle. 'Okay, get self-destructive. This is something America would do. If we lose, we going to press the fucking nuke button.' So I said, 'This is my fucking nuke button. I'm pressing this nuke button within five, six minutes.'
"[Dialect] finished rapping," Daylyt continues. "I go into my third. 'Ass naked with a shotgun / I'm going to get ass naked with the shotgun.' Boom. I hit the nuke button. The building explodes. Twitter explodes. The Internet explodes. Hash tag explodes. Instagram. Everything exploded. I think I was the owner of Battle Rap for that one day, maybe that week. Like, when I logged on Twitter, I didn't see nothing else but 'Daylyt naked' down the whole Twitter. The 10,000 [followers]...I have 11,000 now. Probably at the time, I had 10,000. At least 9,000 of them followers had pictures of the battle tweeted or retweeted. So, it was just like a self-destruct button, man. It was just a nuke button. If all else fails, I just gave them the nuke. That's pretty much what I did."
Daylyt is scheduled to battle against Head Ice at this year's King of the Dot-organized Battle of the Bay 6 event.
In September, Lush One spoke with HipHopDX about the event.
"'Battle of the Bay' is the dopest and most innovative series in Battle Rap history, especially for Cali," Lush said in an exclusive statement to HipHopDX. "Because of us doing that shit and groups like Hieroglyphics, now you got little youngsters all through the hood in East Oakland. This is Cali. It's not New York. We grew up on Mob Music and gang culture, not Hip Hop, cyphers and battles. We helped bring that element to the forefront. It's way bigger and more important to the Bay Area then the Battle Rap community can comprehend. 'Battle of the Bay' means the manifestation of all my hopes and dreams. I lost my chick over that shit basically. I chose this over my life and fuck it, I couldn't be happier."
