Dom Kennedy also recalls his reaction upon hearing Best Buy released the album early.

Though Dom Kennedy's newest album Get Home Safely wasn't scheduled to drop until Tuesday (October 16), the rapper was surprised to find out Best Buy released the project a week early.

In an interview with VIBE, Kennedy reacted to the snafu. "Shout out to Best Buy," said Kennedy, smiling. "That's all I can say right now."

Kennedy continued, recalling the scene. "Best Buy had a little mix-up. Sold a couple early. I guess they wanted people to hear the music a week early... But it's October 15th. I was a little shocked and thrown off, eating breakfast in [Los Angeles] when people was tweetin' me the album last Tuesday, to be honest.

Ultimately, Kennedy was not phased by the incident. "I was confident. I realized after a day, I just sat back and told myself, that's maybe why I put so much into it, and thought about it a lot, and sat with the music for a lot of nights, for a lot of early mornings. It was just something... I was dedicated, I was attached to this project, and I feel like the music is gonna stand up for me. And I'm happy to stand behind it.

Kennedy also describe his creative process in recording the album. "With me, I try to come with a main topic or a main goal that I know is going to put my heart into it for the next eight, twelve months. However long I'm working on it, I'm gonna need a subject that's gonna last."

"Get Home Safely, it was a challenge," said the rapper. "I just wanted to do something I'd never heard before, and I'd heard every good Rap album, so that was tough. But I feel like we did a great job.

“I feel like people will be proud to say that this is their favorite Rap album of the moment,” said Kennedy in a recent interview with HipHopDX of the album. “It represents something bigger than just $10 or just one person.”

Get Home Safely is Dom Kennedy's second studio album, which follows 2011's From the Westside with Love, II. In 2012, Kennedy released the Yellow Album and Young Nation mixtapes.
