Phil Jackson talks about why he responded to Kendrick Lamar's "Control" verse.
Phil Jackson, former NBA player and coach, was mentioned on Kendrick Lamar's verse on Big Sean's "Control." Recently, Jackson explained why he responded to Lamar shortly after the verse was released.
"That's the wonderful world of Twitter," Phil Jackson said in an interview with "The Seth Davis Show." "It is. That's where you can communicate with people who are completely out of your range of influence and your social grouping. But the connection between basketball and Rap is so deep that many of the people that tweet back and forth to me were saying, 'You gotta come back at Lamar after he gives you this.'
"I read the mentions on that," Jackson continued. "I was looking for some social communication. So, I threw that out there. Of course, that was a hot line. It had a buzz."
On "Control," Lamar raps that Phil Jackson would be unable to coach him.
"If Phil Jackson came back," Kendrick Lamar rapped on the track, "Still no coachin' me. I'm uncoachable."
Soon after the selection was released, Phil Jackson responded to the mention on Twitter.
