Rich Homie Quan Says Jail Made Him A Better Person

Rich Homie Quan says jail made him smarter.

Rich Homie Quan, best known for his single, “My Type Of Way,” spoke with Columbus, Ohio radio station Power 107.5 about his time in jail and how it affected the person he is today.

“My mental state was so off because at that time, I know it took money to make music. At that time, I didn’t have no money so I was out there doing stuff I had no business doing,” says Rich Homie Quan.

According to his official website, the Atlanta rapper spent over a year in jail and was released in 2011.

“If I had the chance to do it all over, I wouldn’t,” says Rich Homie Quan in the Power 107.5 interview. “Because during my time being locked up, I learned so much in jail and I feel like that’s why I am where I am today. It made me smarter. It made me a better person.”

“It’s you against the world,” adds Quan when asked about his biggest lesson learned. “It made me just want to put my all into myself… If I don’t believe in myself, who’s gone believe in me?”

While Quan’s first single, “My Type Of Way,” made it to #50 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, was dubbed by Drake as “song of the summer,” and had an official remix featuring Jeezy and Meek Mill, Quan claims to not have expected the song to be as successful as it has been.

“I’m blessed to be in the situation I’m in but no, I did not expect for that to do what it did," shares Quan. "In the back of my mind, I always knew I had bars. I could rap, ya feel me. It just took for everyone to believe in me.”

Rumors have been circulating that Quan has signed to Def Jam Records since “My Type Of Way” was digitally released through the label. Although there is no official statement yet, Quan wants his fans to know that he will be releasing one last mixtape before he pens a deal.

“I want everyone to know that it’s very special to me. I haven’t dropped a mixtape in a year and I’ve been riding on this deal going in for a year,” adds Quan. “I feel as if before I do sign a deal, I owe it to the streets and I owe it to myself because without the streets I wouldn’t be where I’m at. I got something very special.”

Quan’s mixtape, Thats Rite 2, hosted by DJ Drama and DJ Keem, will be released November 26.
