Kanye West Says Next Album May Include Only Eight Songs

Kanye West compares music career to "a giant art project" while discussing his art background.

In a past interview, Kanye West revealed that he wants to release his next studio album by summer 2014 and during an appearance at Art Basel, the Chicago rapper shared a few added details on his plans for his next LP.

According to Rolling Stone, during a conversation with architect Jacques Herzog at Miami’s Moore Building, Ye stated that he wants his next album to consist of only eight songs in order to reduce “the amount of information” fans need.

"I think my next album is going to be eight songs," said Kanye. "It's just reducing down the amount of information that you need. People say a design is the point where you can't take anything else away. [Yeezus] was very, very designed. I took a departure from radio and popular music in order to get this seat here. If I hadn't made Yeezus, I wouldn't be sitting here with this cool font at Basel right here."

With the multi-city Art Basel serving as an annual fete dedicated to all things art, Kanye also took the opportunity to discuss his background in art and referred to his music career as “a giant art project.”

"My original creative background was fine art," he said. "By the time I was 14, I was in national competitions for art, and I actually went to school for art. Sometimes I actually forget that. Except for when I tour and I look back at the stage and say, 'Wait a second, I forgot this was the whole trick I pulled on everyone to make them think I was a rapper, a musician or celebrity when the entire time it's all been a giant art project.'"

Kanye’s appearance at Art Basel comes as the G.O.O.D. Music emcee recently underwent a moderate amount of bad publicity following two Yeezus tour stops. During his Tampa, Florida show the rapper reportedly stormed off stage after cursing out the tour’s technical crew. Additionally, in Kansas City, Kanye’s tour only drew in a total of 4,500 people at a venue capable of holding up to 18,500.

The Yeezus tour is currently scheduled to make stops in Houston, Chicago, and a handful of other U.S. cities before concluding in Toronto, Canada at the end of the month.
