R. Kelly "Black Panties" First Week Sales Projections

R. Kelly's "Black Panties" album predicted to sell close to 100,000 copies in its first week.

R. Kelly’s newly-released album, Black Panties, serves as the R&B crooner’s first solo album in nearly a year and a half and the LP will possibly serve as another sales success for the Chicago singer. FakeShoreDrive.com reports that Black Panties will sell close to 100,000 copies in its first week.

Released on December 10, Black Panties serves as Kelly’s twelfth solo album, and includes guest appearances from Atlanta wordsmiths Young Jeezy, 2 Chainz, and Ludacris.

The release of Kelly’s latest solo effort, which secured a 3.5 rating on HipHopDX, follows 2012’s Write Me Back, which went on to clench the #5 spot on the Billboard 200 chart thanks to the 68,000 copies sold in the week following the album’s release.

According to R. Kelly, Black Panties will be followed by the release of a Christmas album he says won’t be out until 2014.

“I’m working on a Christmas album right now called the 12 Nights of Christmas and it’s gonna be a lot of lovemaking…I started it last Christmas actually, but I don’t believe in just putting out a Christmas album just to sell records,” said the singer while speaking with Rap-Up.com. “It has to be the next ['This Christmas']. In order to get that and capture that moment, you have to take a couple of Christmases and then you come with it.”

Other notable albums released this week include Childish Gambino’s Because The Internet and Snoop Dogg & Dam-Funk’s 7 Days of Funk.
