M.I.A. Announces Departure From Jay Z's Roc Nation

M.I.A. Tweets that she's left Jay Z's Roc Nation and that she is looking for people to work with her in various capacities.

M.I.A. tweeted Tuesday (December 31) that she has left Jay Z’s Roc Nation. "2013 i dlted old tweet to bring u this. im leaving @RocNation . Thank to everyone who supported the M.I.A #MATANGI LP. HAPPY NEW YEAR | 2014” M.I.A. tweeted Tuesday.

Yesterday (January 1), the rapper tweeted that she is looking for people to work with her. "MIA 4 the people by the people, looking for young people to work in fields of ART production / MUSIC /MERCH / FILM / WEB / MARKETING SndCV,” her tweet said.

M.I.A. signed with Roc Nation May 2012. At the time, the rapper’s fourth album, Matangi, was slated for a fall 2012 release.

In July 2013, director Steve Loveridge leaked a teaser video for a documentary that was scheduled to accompany Matangi. Roc Nation reportedly pulled the video, saying that it was hurting the set-up of the album, according to rollingstone.com.

M.I.A. has also said that Interscope Records, which released her music, said that Matangi was “too positive,” per rollingstone.com.
