DJ Nando, a popular Atlanta strip club DJ, is dead after being shot in the head outside of his home in Morrow, GA. DJ Nando, whose real name is William Fernando Barnes, was most likely returning home from a show around 3:30am. Although details are still coming forward, it is appears that DJ Nando, 38, died from a gunshot wound to the back of the head. His death was confirmed by the “Coalition DJ’s” in a press release.

Neighbor, Cindy Copeland, gave her account of what she heard, “I heard a loud bang around 3:30am. I thought the power went out, so I checked my clock and that wasn’t it,” Copeland told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “But what grabbed my attention about 4 o’clock was a hysterical woman, on her phone, walking up and down the street, yelling, ‘my baby, my baby.’ After listening to her, I realized, there’s five or six police cars out here, and that’s when I started realizing something very serious has happened down our street here.”

DJ Nando was a member of an Atlanta based DJ partnership known as the “Coalition DJs”. The Atlanta based group exists to help young up and coming hip hop artist get known. Much of underground hip hop gets discovered in strip clubs, because there is usually no restrictions on what can get played. But the people in control are the DJs. So if young rappers want to break into the game, they need to have a connection with a DJ. The Wall Street Journal did a feature on them back in August.

DJ Nando was featured at many of the most well known clubs in Atlanta, like Club Onyx and Magic City. Fans especially turned up on “Magic Mondays” to hear him show off his ability to spin and bring humor to the evening. He also worked with some of the top rappers in the industry who lamented his passing on twitter.
