Kanye West Lawsuit Shuts Coinye West Bitcoins Down

Kanye West sues Coinye West bitcoin makers, Amazon and others.

Kanye West's lawsuit against Amazon and Coinye West crypto-currency makers has caused the anonymous virtual currency creators to shut their work down.

"COINYE IS DEAD," Coinye's site says. "You win, Kanye."

West filed a lawsuit against Coinye's creators Tuesday (January 14), according to The Hollywood Reporter. He also sued 0daycoins.com and Amazon for operating a digital currency exchange and for providing web hosting services to the currency exchanges, according to THR's report.

"With each day that passes, Mr. West's reputation is irreparably harmed," the suit says, as per the New York Daily News. "Consumers are likely to mistakenly believe that Mr. West is the source of these digital coins."

Earlier this month, it was reported that Coinye West's creators dropped the West from the currency's name. They then reportedly dropped Coinye altogether, deciding to change the currency's name to "The Gay Fish," likely a reference to South Park's parody of Kanye West on its show. On the television program, South Park writers crafted an episode about a fictionalized West believing he is a gay fish. The original episode, which was revisited in the show's most recent season finale, can be streamed at South Park's website.
