Bret Easton Ellis, author of "American Psycho," says Kanye West asked him to write a film and that conversing one-on-one with West is "mind-blowing."

Bret Easton Ellis, who wrote the novel American Psycho and other works, says Kanye West asked him to write a film the two could collaborate on. While hesitant at first, Ellis says that listening to a Kanye West album made him sign up for the project. 

"He came and asked me to write the film," Ellis says in an interview with Vice. "I didn’t want to at first. Then I listened to Yeezus. It was early summer last year and I was driving in my car. He’d given me an advance copy and I thought, regardless of whether I’m right for this project, I want to work with whoever made this. So fuck it, I said yes. And that’s how it happened. That was seven or eight months ago. We’ll see what happens." 

When Ellis is asked if he can speak about the project, he says, "I can't." Regarding any details for a timeframe, he adds: "It’s in Kanye-land and that’s subject to a whole other timeframe." 

While discussing the film, Ellis says he was able to have one-on-one interactions with West that also helped him understand the rapper's personality more. 

"I really like him as a person," Ellis says of West. "I know he comes off in this performance art way in the press, but if you’re just alone with him in a room talking for three hours, it’s kind of mind-blowing," Ellis says.
