Chris Brown Facing Jail Time After Plea Deal Falls Apart

By: hiphopdx.comPosted On: 07/27/2014 12 P

(June 25) Chris Brown was close to striking a deal that would have kept him out of jail.

Chris Brown and the attorneys involved in the singer’s case regarding his alleged October assault outside of a Washington, D.C. hotel were close to agreeing on a plea deal in the case, but the agreement was not reached, according to the AP.

Brown may face jail time now that his defense team and prosecutors did not agree on what Brown would say happened during the 2013 incident.

The singer was reportedly approached at approximately 4:30 am October 27 by two women who wanted to take a picture with him in front of the W Hotel in Washington, D.C., according to law enforcement. When two men attempted to get into the photo, Brown allegedly used a gay slur before allegedly throwing a punch at the alleged victim.

At the time of the alleged incident, Brown was on probation for his 2009 assault on then-girlfriend Rihanna and the Washington, D.C. incident could be viewed a violation of his probation. If so, he could be sentenced to prison for up to four years.

The prosecutor in the case said today (June 25) that their team offered Brown and his team a deal in which he would plead guilty to simple assault and time served, according to the AP story. The deal fell apart because the defense and prosecution were unable to agree on what happened during the Washington incident.

"They wanted him to read from a script that wasn't true,” Brown’s attorney Mark Geragos said after the hearing.

The trial regarding this incident was scheduled for September 8.
