Stacey Dash says voicing her political opinions ruined her relationship with her cousin, Damon Dash.
According to actress Stacey Dash, her political commentary and resulting fallout has resulted in relationships with both friends and family members being compromised. Dash revealed that she no longer speaks with her brother, Darien Dash or her cousin Damon Dash, co-founder of Roc-A-Fella Records.
During an interview with Net-A-Porter.com, she shared that both Darien and Damon, who she referred to as role models, advised her not to share her political thoughts publicly.
"My family and I have not spoken," Stacey Dash said. "My cousin Damon and my brother [Darien, CEO of DME Interactive Holdings] were role models to me because they were great capitalists. Now we’re not really talking because they were the ones who told me to keep my mouth shut. They felt that I should do certain things because I’m black. Certain friends don’t speak to me any more either."
Despite no longer speaking with select family and friends, the former Clueless star revealed that people have applauded her for voicing her opinion. She also declared that she hasn’t seen this country "so divided since the Civil Rights Movement."
"But you know what? In the street I get [approached by] so many people of every color saying: "Thank you so much for standing up and being so brave,’" the actress said. "I thought it was time to have a black president and that it would unite us in such a profound way. But as a country, I don’t think we’ve been so divided since the Civil Rights Movement. I mean, isn’t it extraordinary that we are even discussing race in 2014?"
Prior to their falling out, Stacey and Dame Dash appeared to have a cordial relationship with another. In 2004, Stacey Dash was featured in the music video to Roc-A-Fella-Records artist Kanye West’s “All Falls Down."
