ESPN has announced that its longtime anchor, Stuart Scott, has lost his battle with cancer.
The 49-year-old North Carolina native, died Sunday morning in a Hartford-area hospital.
His Hip Hop influence was undeniable.
Scott's signature, animated phrases: "Boo-Yah!" and "As cool as the other side of the pillow," among others, revolutionized sportscasting at the network.
In an interview with XXL last July, Scott explained how Hip Hop music was an important part of his life.
"I like infusing [hip-hop] into what I do, because it's part of who I am," he said at the time. "You've got to be true to who you are and what you do. I'm more of a hip-hop feel person. Music is how you feel. The younger the mind, that's how I wanna be. One of the reasons why I do my job the way I do it is because I want to let people know it does not have to be the way society says it has to be."
Scott has also been mentioned multiple times in Rap lyrics and has even appeared in a few music videos, most notably, Luther Campbell's "Raise the Roof" and LL Cool J's "Shut em Down."
