Kendrick Lamar & ScHoolboy Q Cover Billboard

By: hiphopdx.comPosted On: 02/28/2014 3:09 P

In anticipation of "Oxymoron's" #1 placement on the Billboard chart, the publication covers TDE/Interscope artists Kendrick Lamar and ScHoolboy Q in an upcoming issue of its magazine.

Top Dawg Ent.'s Kendrick Lamar and ScHoolboy Q are set to appear on the cover of Billboard.

The cover tagline reads: "The Tale of Top Dawg: Inside the Hip Hop hit factory that has Kendrick Lamar, a soon-to-be No. 1 album from ScHoolboy Q and the attention of Jimmy Iovine."

Yesterday (February 28), it was announced that ScHoolboy Q is expected to land in the #1 spot on next week's Billboard 200 albums chart. Oxymoron, ScHoolboy's major label debut album may sell between 150,000 and 160,000 copies by the end of the tracking week, according to reports. Official numbers are set to be announced March 5.

Recently, Billboard reviewed the album and discussed its comparisons to Kendrick Lamar's good kid, m.A.A.d. city.

"Oxymoron will no doubt be compared to good kid, m.A.A.d city, the debut album of Q's fellow TDE rapper Kendrick Lamar and arguably the best rap album of the past half-decade," Billboard says in its review. "To say that ScHoolboy Q's major-label debut is 'less consistent' than good kid, m.A.A.d city is something of a misnomer, because, while Lamar dazzles with precise storytelling, Q conjures attention with brusque physicality. Both MCs are aiming for different marks, and although Q's style is too unkempt to produce an album full of clean shots, his misses on Oxymoron are often just as compelling." Overall, the publication said Oxymoron earned a score of 82.

HipHopDX also reviewed the album, which earned 3.5 out of 5 rating in its review. "Ultimately the good moments are on par with what will be considered 2014’s high-water marks, and if held they weren’t held to the high standards of Setbacksand Habits & Contradictions, Q’s low points would be acceptable from another rapper," the review says. "Given TDE’s ever-increasing appeal, Oxymoron isn’t quite an elite offering, but it meets the difficult task of attracting casual fans without straying too far from the formula that attracted ScHoolboy Q’s core audience."
