The Aspen Institute names Lupe Fiasco as one of its 20 Class of Henry Crown Fellows.

The Aspen Institute, an internationally renowned nonprofit organization, recently announced its 2014 Class of Henry Crown Fellows and among those named was Wasulu Muhammad Jaco, also known as Lupe Fiasco.

The Chicago native was among 20 entrepreneurs, all under the age of 45, selected to launch a new initiative, which includes having a positive impact on their surroundings over the two year fellowship.

According to the institute's official press release, "All are proven entrepreneurs, mostly from the world of business, who have reached a point in their lives where, having achieved success, they are ready to apply their creative talents to building a better society." Peter Reiling, executive director of the program, said that each member selected is a representative for the better and are expected to make a positive change on the world.

“For society, they represent a potent force of talent, ready to focus their energies on some of the greatest challenges of our times. For them, they are embarking on a personal journey—a journey ‘from success to significance’—that will change their lives forever.”

The Aspen Institute is an educational and policy studies organization based in Washington, DC with a goal to foster leadership and to provide a nonpartisan venue for dealing with critical issues.

Lupe Fiasco has a history in philanthropic work. In 2011, his foundation, the Lupe Fiasco Foundation launched their first annual winter coat drive in Chicago. In 2009, he, Justin Timberlake and Ethiopian-born Pop singer Kenna attempted to climb Africa’s Mount Kilimanjaro to raise awareness about the global water crisis.
