French Montana Says He Made "Mistake" Releasing Nicki Minaj-Featured "Freaks"

"When you go to the club and every record they're playing is yours," French Montana says, "you try to go left, and I made that mistake."

French Montana says that he made a bad decision to release the Nicki Minaj-featured single “Freaks.”

"When you go to the club and every record they’re playing is yours, you try to go left, and I made that mistake,” French Montana says of his 2013 single during an interview with Billboard. "Jay Z told me he once made that same mistake too. Your first album you never know what’s going on with the business and labels. The second one you’re like, ‘Fuck this.’ You get the ball in your own court."

The Bad Boy/Interscope Records artist says that he won’t make the same misstep with his forthcoming Mac & Cheese album.

Gaby Acevedo, Montana’s manager, says that Montana will be making the decisions on his forthcoming album, which is being executive produced by Kanye West and Harry Fraud.

"We’re team players, but he’s got creative control," Acevedo says. "He builds the album on his own, at his house. We don’t have an A&R. He’s his own A&R.”

Songs slated to appear on Mac & Cheese include the DJ Mustard-produced “Don’t Panic,” the Rick Ross and Lil Wayne collaboration “Gucci Mane” and the Miguel duet “Explicit.”

Montana also say that he discusses his personal life on the set.

"You’ll get the skeletons,” he says, "the meat.”

Last month, Montana said that Hip Hop is confused.

"I was one of the last people to come out and go big out of New York,” he said at the time. “Everybody's like, 'Is it real Hip Hop? This, this and that.' I feel like the hottest new kid that just came out, [Bobby] Shmurda, he sounds like he's from down south. That's because we're doing different things."
