50 Cent: Young Buck "Genuinely Didn't Know He Had To Pay Taxes"

50 Cent responds to G-Unit reunion being "a ploy."

Power 99 radio host DJ Cosmic Kev questioned the authenticity of the G-Unit reunion at Hot 97 Summer Jam, during a newly-released interview with 50 Cent and G-Unit. The radio personality brought into question the numerous times 50 revealed that there would be no reunion weeks prior to the group’s performance together in early June at Summer Jam.

According to the Jamaica, Queens rapper, stating that there would be no G-Unit reunion was the “best thing to happen” because it showed interest in a reunion from fans.

50 Cent Reacts When Asked About G-Unit Reunion Being "A Ploy"

“I told them the best thing to happen for them is I said it couldn’t happen,” 50 Cent said during an interview with Power 99. “That’s when the fans started to say ‘No, that’s what I want.’ Because when you not saying anything about it then it’s just missing from our culture. The music is not there…You can feel like they need you. They don’t need none of ‘em. The guy that’s number one right now I feel like you need ‘em. Then he disappears and it’ll still be 10 in the countdown. And it’s cool when you can put—When your entry means something to the culture. Where people can appreciate it cause you offer a perspective that’s a real perspective. My only conflict with a lot of artists is deciphering who’s telling the truth and who’s not.”

50 Cent: Young Buck "Genuinely Didn't Know He Had To Pay Taxes"

50 Cent later detailed his early encounters with Young Buck, who was closely affiliated with Juvenile at the time, when asked about the G-Unit lyricist owing $200,000 in taxes. After speaking on linking up with the Nashville, Tennessee rapper, he revealed that Buck “genuinely didn’t know that he had to pay the taxes.”

“I had met him before with Juve on the bus and everything,” 50 said. “And I told him I liked his music. But I didn’t go further cause I felt like it’d be disrespectful to Juve. But later when I caught up with him and he was under different circumstances. Juve left him in L.A. and he had to—They had all kind of things going on because he was trying to—Juve was getting away from Baby and them by getting down with Suge. And it was just uncomfortable at one point. He had some contracts put in front of him. Instead of signing the contracts he just broke out in the middle of the night. Now when I spoke to him I’m like ‘Yo, take this. I’mma work with you and learn it.’ The next time he got a phone call he was getting paid. He never—In all the other situations with Cash Money days, with Juve. He was grinding and around it and working, doing little things. But he wasn’t actually being paid for it…He genuinely didn’t know that he had to pay the taxes.”

In April of this year, months prior to G-Unit’s Summer Jam reunion, 50 Cent had this to say about a possible reunion with the group, during an interview with Hot 97’s Funkmaster Flex:

“There’s a possibility for us to do things, but they gotta get themselves together…I think it’s the work.”
