Jim Jones attributes success of Bobby Shmurda's "Hot Nigga" to the Shmoney Dance.

Harlem, New York rapper Jim Jones defended New York Hip Hop during an interview with radio personality Jenny Boom Boom when he was asked if the Hip Hop coming out of his hometown is dead. He then revealed that from a business perspective New York Hip Hop can never be dead.

The Dipset lyricist then went on to elaborate on what he feels is wrong with New York Hip Hop. According to Jones, New York rappers have big egos and are very divided. He went on to add that artists in the South and other regions work with one another regardless of what their relationships outside of music may be.

“New York Hip Hop it can never be dead if you look at it from the business point,” Jim Jones said in a video posted on Vlad TV. “Shit, you wanna make movies you go to Hollywood. You want a record deal you come to New York. So, if you really wanna be technical about the situation we still cut everybody’s checks. I don’t care where the hell the music is made. You understand what I’m saying? We put this on the map…Now as far as how music goes—I mean, music runs around 360 degrees all the time. So, when it’s down South for a little while. Whether it’s to the West Coast for a little while. Whether it’s to the Midwest for a little while. It’s always gonna come back to a place where it says it’s not popping. But New York’s problem is everybody here has a big ego. Including I. And everybody wants to be on top. And everybody wants to be the king. Nobody seems to be working with one another…It’s very divided. And the people that do stick together they’re still divided.”

Jones later spoke on the success of up-and-coming rapper Bobby Shmurda’s record, “Hot Nigga.” He attributed the success of the song to the accompanying dance and recalled the success of his own dance-friendly record, “Ballin.”

“One thing about a dance, you can’t beat a dance,” he said. “The ‘Ballin’ dance was half the battle…You think about all the people that danced in they career and figure out if they ever lost. Chris Brown, Diddy, Mike Jackson. Think about what dances do…A dance and a catchy record or whatever it always works. And God bless that kid cause shit, we all in the hood tryna come up. He’s young. He fresh out. And fresh out the hood…Them kids are young. I just hope they have somebody in they corner [that] actually know what it is to move with a movement or being something that can be very great.

In regards to possibly working with Bobby Shmurda, Jones says that the Brooklyn, New York lyricist would have to put out more music before he could answer that question.

“He gon’ have to really put out some music for me to be able to say would I work with Bobby or not. I have no opinion on what type of artist he is yet,” Jones said.
