Big K.R.I.T. Explains How B.B. King Collaboration Came Together

Big K.R.I.T. tells the story of how he was able to get B.B. King on his last album.

Big K.R.I.T. released his sophomore album Cadillactica earlier this week while also continuing his press run in order to promote the project.

Sitting down with Power 105.1 The Breakfast Club, the Mississippi native talked about his most recent LP but also was asked about how his collaboration with B.B. King (from Live From The Underground) and how it came together.

"It happened to be someone named Jason that was a part of B.B.'s camp that was familiar with my music," K.R.I.T. explained. "He was like, 'Yo, I'll play B.B. the record and then we going to see what he thinks about it.' And it just went from there... I just wanted to bridge a gap in music in some sort of way and so even if nothing else happens in the rest of my career I can look back to that moment and be like, 'I did something that hasn't happened before.'"

Big K.R.I.T. also talked about almost quitting music and the tough decisions he had to make in order to survive.

“Beats weren’t selling, that was a point where people were like, ‘Yo let me rap on the beat and if it takes off I’ll come back and give you some bread,’" he said reflecting on his beginnings. "Everybody would find somebody to mix their records. The quality of music was changing because you could get your hands on a program and mix it with ease. So I was damn near out of a job at that point. I remember I was like, 'I’m either gonna buy some food or pay this cell phone bill…'”
